CONCEPT
A wall sculpture subverting the entomological display, 40 % stages the motif of an exotic butterfly pinned beneath a pane of clear glass whose surface seems to melt beyond its field of control.
The work questions the capacity of our objects of memory to stand in for the presence of the living. Pinning and placing under glass reveal a mechanism of capture: Nature is reduced to an anonymised trophy, frozen by inventory and possession.
The shift occurs through the self-generation of a hybrid motif, transfiguring the butterfly so as to move its memory towards the immaterial, revealing the intrinsic value of what escapes capture.
