3L - 10L

Liters

CONCEPT

3 L – 10 L is a series of sculptures that subverts the forms of the petrol jerrycan, a product of the mass consumer industry.

A technological invention of the interwar period, the jerrycan was designed to increase the operational autonomy of armed forces. Long kept secret, it was eventually copied by all, becoming today's global standard for fuel containers.

While oil burns without a trace, the container remains the sole vestige of a system of exploitation and dependency whose impact on health and the environment is disastrous. The works thus question how the mastery of fossil energy has shaped our relationship with the world.

Hybridising these forms through bio-integration processes makes it possible to self-generate structures that break with an anthropocentric vision. Deliberately dysfunctional, these objects free themselves from their condition as products to assert the autonomy of their presence, released from any logic of conquest.
